GOLD COAST COMMUNITY GUIDE
The "Citizens Advice Bureau" was etablished in March 1984 by the late Connie Gill in a very small office in the Council Chambers in Nerang Street, Southport. With a small band of volunteers the doors opened and the phones rang.
The service began collecting information for a data base on services offered and organisations on the Gold Coast covering a wide variety of topics. Two Directories, titledThe Community resources Directory and Over 50's Directory were established with this data and were printed and distributed by the Council through Chambers and Libraries as well as through our office.
These publications are now merged into one Directory titled GCCC Community Guide, also known as the Community Resource Directory. The Citizens Advice Bureau volunteers are responsible for the updating and collecting of this data on an ongoing basis.
We would like to acknowledge in particular the tireless work of Mrs Kaye Dowton who worked on and developed the guide for 27 years before taking a much earned retirement in 2012. We currently have a committed team comprised of Wendy Bowman, Barbara Price-Ellingham and Pauline Haddad. The Guide is considered the definitive community service resource on the coast and is widely distributed throughout the entire Gold Coast region.
The current GCCC Community Guide contains a listing of over 2350 non-profit Gold Coast organisations.
This Guide is updated weekly and remains the copyright of the Citizen Advice Bureau & GC Legal Service Inc. To list your organisation or update your details, please fax 07 5532 9125 or click on the link below
